Performance evaluation
Character evaluation:
In my opinion I feel like I portrayed my character well whilst thinking of the important elements learnt about Stanislavsky's method. Throughout the process leading up to the show I had employed line learning techniques that I feel really did help me in regards to my performance creating a cohearant balance between the implied meaning of what Jean says and also of his actions. However this being said I do feel like I could have gone further with the character possibly if there was more time, as we had only worked on these scenes for a few weeks I feel that I had brought the standard up to the furthest that I could over a period of only a couple of weeks. If I had more time I would've tried to work out some possibe habits of Jean possibly distancing the physical appearance and status even more from my own. The key thing that I felt was that embodiement of the character could have been pushed further on my part, especially because I was given a scene with so much emotional substance to it, I feel like possibly if I had one more week that is what I would have focused on in regards to my character.
The scene itself:
I felt, and still feel, that the scene communicated very well at a proffessional level, I felt like the work that we both had put into our scene bounced well off of each other and allowed the both of us to create a very convincing interpretation of the scene, in a way that not only made us appear that our lines were coming through naturally but also our physical actions. I felt like the only issue that we had for the scene was the immediate preperation back stage. The issue I felt is that because we had such a long duration before we had to go on stage (considering how we had the last scene) it was hard to maintain a consistent focus in keeping in the zone for an hour and a half whilst maintaining an awareness of the progression of the play and which people were going on for their scenes. I felt however that despite this I did portray the best version of the scene that I had done so far. As I did take into consideration some comments mentioned about the tempo and rythmn of a scene, in this case it revolved around making sure there was no dead time on stage and keeping aware of the cue lines for actions and other such motions.
Secondly the potential for the play as a whole is massive, considering how everyone had learnt their lines in such a quick way and also in regards to how all the scenes appeared to bring their own unique elements we really did build a strong foundation for the play to be polished upon. As I believe we also did communicate the meaning of the play quite well, an issue with initial understanding when reading the play is that there is no visual context, seeing it in front of you builds upon the story itself. In this regard I feel like we did well in touching upon Strindberg's intentions and meaning, even if the message can be taken in different ways. I felt that we communicated all the devices within the play to an efficient standard. Overall I felt that the production was strong and has set a good precedent for the next projects.
