Theatre Log 11/09/17
Within this part of the theatre workshop we talk about how imperative the elements of objectives were. The primary exercise used was the exercise where we moved around the room, trying to keep in a good distance with someone, of course the exercise started getting hectic with people starting to speed up to reach their target and avoid other certain people as well. This was a useful practical analogy for the concept of conflicting objectives. That is so clearly present within the context of Miss Julie. This essentially made me think about how to deal with being in a scene with 2-3 people and how it would work in regards to the conflicting objectives. What the exercise had pointed out is that the reason why the group became hectic with people running around and moving is because there was a lack of communication, something which is an essential tool when running scene work with another actor. This in turn laid out the base work for an understanding of objectives and super-objectives. This was approached well in the exercise as it showed how sometimes some objectives can obscure the super-objective of a character in a play, this was shown in turn when we were tasked with making an equalateral triangle with two of your targets, but this in turn caused an issue in regards to the other instructions given, by constantly moving around the room, trying to get in to the triangle shape it became difficult to juggle the actions, essentially making another practical analogy but this time, detailing the relationship between the interference of objectives and super-objectives, Following this a key thing that I had noted down was how intention altered the perspectivve of an objective, in this case it was what objective was valued more and how it contributed to the overall super-objective. Something that I will eventually take into account for regarding my Miss Julie scenes. Another key thing learnt was how stakes impact an objective and then in turn the tempo and rythmn of a scene Such as defusing a bomb would be considered being higher stakes than someone getting coffee in the morning when they've got a train to catch. So for example the first scenario would have a higher tempo than the second. And in turn gives a different audience approach for them to watch.
